DXA - precise and accurate

Bodycomp Imaging provides the most expensive body fat measurement in the Lower Mainland. Normally this isn't something I'd brag about, but it's important to understand why a DXA scan costs more than the body fat test you would get in your local gym. Calipers, Tanita scales (bio-electrical) or circumference measurements all have a very high error to the measurements. If you are measured at 20% body fat with one of these devices, you may actually be as low as 10% or as high as 30% fat. This is an enormous error range, but the people providing you with these figures will rarely provide you with the precision and accuracy.

A Bodycomp scan using DXA technology is within 1.5% - it is the gold standard used in medicine, research and by fitness professionals that understand the error associated with other methods of analysis. If you want an accurate and reproducible body fat measurement, a Bodycomp is the most accurate technology currently available.

Basic body weight exercises:

Often when an individual is considering a fitness program, they are intimidated by the extreme runner or weight lifter performing feats that are nearly impossible to the observer.

Enter the body weight exercise - these basic but powerful maneuvers make use of the weight of your body to train your muscles. They include, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, burpees, jumping jacks, crunches and many other natural whole body movements.

Now there is nothing magical about these movements except that they require minimal or no equipment and can be performed in many different times and places. I suggest establishing a 20 minute routine in the privacy of your own home to get started. Simply set a time and alternate between exercises every minute or two and try to maintain a high intensity for the entire 20 minutes.

Once you are comfortable with these basic movements, challenge yourself to get stronger than you have ever been before. I particularly enjoy the hundred push-up program - it will show you how to build up your strength regardless of starting ability to be able to perform 100 push-ups in a row. Amazing!

There is a similar program to develop the strength and endurance to perform 200 squats and sit-ups as well. Try these programs out and see how well you can do - the challenge and feedback are very rewarding and will provide you with dramatic increases in your core strength and muscle mass.
