Bodycomp News & Views Issue#10 December 2010

In this issue:

  1. Crossfit Everywhere
  2. Kale Chips

Kale Chips (so tasty!)

These are quick and so very tasty, but they are a little finicky.

1 bunch green kale

3 tbsp olive oil

3 tbsp ground parmesan cheese

1 tbsp dried basil

Tear washed kale into loonie sized pieces. Toss with oil in a plastic bag or contained until kale is covered in mixture. Place kale in a SINGLE LAYER on a cookie sheet.

Bake in a preheated 400F oven for around 7 minutes. They are done when crisp and slightly browned. Depending on the oven I've seen them take from between 5-10 minutes, so keep a close eye the first time you try them.

Crossfit Everywhere

I have a love/hate relationship with Crossfit. It's expensive, and not just financially - it's a culture that consumes your life and distorts your values. It's also a damn fine way to whip your body into shape and quiet your mind after a hectic day. Some people like yoga... I prefer to actually get strong, induce fat burning hormonal changes and play with heavy weights and gymnastics.

The workouts are hard and fast, but you constantly get to learn new technical ways to improve your training and tend to be surrounded by passionate quality people.

Vancouver has seen an explosion of locations offering CF style training. I've had good experiences with the following gyms/people:

Crossfit Vancouver (first on the scene, big, rowdy, fun)

Crossfit BC (downtown, more professional, less swearing and crying)

Crossfit Optimum Performance (solid coaching, relatively new)

Other Crossfit locations I haven't dealt with yet:

Tactix Gym (downtown on Hornby, MMA focused)

Crossfit Westside (near BC place)
